This January NC weather has been quite schizophrenic - 50 degrees-ice storm-50 degrees..and so on. Midweek I made it out to DuPont SP (you've all seen pictures before of the lovely Triple Falls and High Falls.
But what you didn't know was that the hikes to the other falls were based from the Hooker Falls parking lot. Had a little extra time, so we decided to take the extra trek in to Hooker Falls. Right in line with NC naming conventions...we hiked in toward Hooker Falls along a river known as the "Little River." Now, this Hooker Falls is a PG-rated kind of a falls (unlike this NOT PG-rated Hooker Falls) compared to the Triple and the High.
It is a mini-falls by comparison

So at Hooker Falls the water just goes over a sort of shelf into this grand pool. Can't wait for summer.
BONUS: While researching my Hooker Falls links I had a complete memory nudge. Get this...when I lived in Chico, California (3-7 yrs of age...just long enough for my parents to get their undergrad degrees from the Best in the West Party School), I used to go to this park near our house called Hooker Oak Park. If I remember correctly, this park has a creek running through it (yup, Big Chico Creek) that had banks entirely made of concrete so that when you played in it, it was like you were in some sort of crazy sluice. I also ate my first wild strawberry there. And nearby there was a park that had a sandbox...wait...found it...Humpty's Sandbox.
(this is a before and after vandalism photo).
