sonic youth hurts. MY dog's ears.
This week is a week of moodiness. Lots of small pictures for a small week.

5.4.08
Hiking up Blue Ridge Parkway, near my turnaround point (mile 6).
Nice little plant, only on the north side of the ridge.

5.5.08
Prepping for the big day. Voting is so friggin' easy here, but i do wish
they would at least ask to see a photo ID. Interesting bit on these two
candidates...i ending up choosing one over the other based on a FL case.
Just can't get away...

5.6.08
First mountain biking in NC, first in mountains (even baby ones)
since 1999 - Vail/Boulder, CO. So it was a big deal for me. I kind
of suck now, very hesitant and shaky. Bent Creek - needs more exploring.
I love my bike.

5.7.08
Appalachian music night at WWC. Nola was my date - we hiked
first, up around [info]casinoqueen's tree.

5.8.08
Hard to explain this one without really digging into work issues.
Let's just say that I am moving into a new workspace and I have the
joy of clearing out a retirees files...30 years means you don't have to
clean up when you leave, and no one else does either. Needs color.

5.9.08
Round about Brevard for work...found this little guy at the
base of a 100,000 gallon water tank. SO cute!

5.10.08
Took apart the kitchen today. It is currently primed and smelly and a complete
disaster. Can't wait to get the actual paint up tomorrow night...looking for a new
home for the liquor. So pretty, and nothing to mix it with.

and the BONUS for the week is from our newly flowering bush out back.

Sonic Youth? What convergence of events brought that on?

The bike picture is very cool.

thought you might like the bike.

RANDOM CD shelf-picking game. sometimes it rocks, sometimes it burns.

I just love these collections of pictures at the end of the week! I'm pretty sure the first one is wood betony, although I've never seen one that color!

I used to ride my bike on the trails of Bent Creek (when I lived in Candler--God, now that is years and years ago!) but I LOVED it so much and I still have my bike. I was telling my 15 yr old son that I guess it's the old school of the old schools--but it's still a great bike.

I wish WWC was just a little closer...on Wednesday I heard the Folk Choir on WNCW ( a very serendipitous occurence! ) and --whew!-- what a delicious treat that was! Can I go back to college, please?

Did you know that the Eastern Box Turtle is the longest lived animal in North America? 120 years. I think that's what you've got there, but maybe it's a snapper? Anyway, turtles totally rock!

And so do you! :)

i think it was a box turtle. we tested it's snapper reflexes :). they are adorable. i have been spending my lake days spotting basking turtles - silly, but they do rock!

wood betony - maybe i'll look that up, i have a bunch of pics of it along the trail.

i do love my bike. bought with tax rebate $ way back in the mid 90's (fun saying it that way). Bent Creek is full of people with bikes worth...5-6 times what i paid 10 years ago.

i know it's far (WWC), but maybe next year if you can break free on a Weds evening we could go to the Appalachian music night series...sometimes it's excellent.

spending time at WWC makes me feel a little cheated - like i had the wrong college experience and now i'm too old to go backward like that. :) but not in a horrible mopey way.

Eek! I think the white walls of that office would leave me needing a bit of the stuff in picture #7 :)

I like the bike shot, too. And that turtle is soooo cute!
firthofforth[info]firthofforth on May 13th, 2008 10:45 pm (UTC)
no kidding!

i'm working on changing it. i wanted a before shot tho. i have these cloth wall hangings that i've been carting around forever - i can't paint, but i can hang light stuff. it will be ok soon. i bought lamps at a rummage sale this weekend and while they need better shades, i may be out of florescent lights soon!

the colors are great in this one (and i took almost an identical shot to your last one...but you'll see it soon enough).

do you guys see crazy plants there? OR is full of shapes and colors i have never seen before in plant-life. whatever is in that first picture is equally foreign to me.
firthofforth[info]firthofforth on May 13th, 2008 10:42 pm (UTC)
there's plenty that's new to me. i love colors like this pink - when it is naturally occurring.

when we moved from WI to FL the thing that hit me over and over again was that i was in a FOREIGN environment...everything was different. the grass wasn't even 'right' and nothing smelled like home.

NC is different. it has elements of up north, enough to be familiar with, and elements of my memories of N. CA (once you get above 4000' elevation). so while most of the plants are different, they aren't foreign.
